Background & history

The Institute of Health Policy and Management was established in February 2008 to promote basic and multidisciplinary research in the field of health policy and management, and to achieve academic development in the field of health policy and management.

Health policy and management is a discipline that studies various social, economic and cultural factors related to health and disease and develops institutional measures to address them. In addition to knowledge and research methodology from medical science, research on health policy and management requires a multidisciplinary approach that utilizes knowledge and research methodologies from various disciplines indluding humanities and social sciences. Health policy and management is thus an area where cooperation and collaboration with various clinical fields are necessary. In this regard, the Institute studies various factors related to health and disease as well as policy solutions by establishing a multidisciplinary research network with medical and non-medical fields. Through this, the Institute aims to enhance the social and policy utilization of research achievements in health sciences and to play a mediating role in the virtuous cycle of mutually beneficial collaboration between health sciences and other fields.
